Hamilton and Lauraville: Top Local Restaurant News Story of the Decade

The Baltimore Sun's restaurant critic, Elizabeth Large, has named Lauraville/Hamilton one of the top local restaurant news stories of the decade!

Ms. Large writes:
'9) The rise of the Lauraville/Hamilton neighborhood as a place to get very good food. It began with the Chameleon Cafe, which opened in the mid-90s but was something of an anomaly. It wasn't until this decade that we also got Hamilton Tavern, Clementine, Red Canoe, Parkside and Zeke's Coffee.'

The entire article is here.

Congratulations to all resturants that are mentioned in the article and to other eating establishments up and down Harford Road, such as the Lauraville House, Lost in the 50s, Los Amigos, Big Bad Wolf, Chef Mac's, Koco's Pub, Grind-on Cafe.

Taco Tuesday and Holiday Hours Clementine (21214)

News from Clementine....

Outside it may be frightful...
But inside we have a 'South of the Border' sort of vibe. Taco Tuesday is here.... get your taco platters, margarita, sangria & beer specials & pasteles tres leches! We have no palm trees or gently lapping waves but the food is definitely remeniscent of balmier climes.

The menu is on the bottom of the dinner menu on our website. Seriously, aren't you tired of the food court? And smoothies just don't cut it this close the Christmas!

Also, a reminder that Clementine will be closed Christmas Eve & Christmas but will be open for regular hours on the Saturday after. With seasonal drafts, delicious food and a warm atmosphere, it could be just the thing to soothe you after the holiday stress!

Build you own Wooden-Toy at Beth's DIY (Lauraville 21214)

Hi Everyone - Come on by any time between 10 AM and 5PM and build a wood toy. This is the last Saturday this year that the workshop will be open for toy making. For $10 come into the workshop and make a wood toy. I have plans, scraps of wood, and wood wheels. If you would like, you can bring in your own plans or ideas and lets see what we can create, but I have plenty of plans to choose from. The kids are welcome to come with you although they won't be able to use the power tools (except the scroll saw) they can at least see how things are done.

I also have beautiful fully functional bird house for sale at the shop. They are now marked down to $30. They are made from reclaimed wood and hand painted by a couple of local artists. There are also two kid size stools still left in stock.

So come on by, I will be here.
Peace to All - Beth

Clemetine in Chesapeake Home Magazine

Winston Blick, chef and owner of Clementine (5402 Harford) was written about in Chesapeake Home magazine in an article written about comfort food. The article's author, Dennis Hockman, writes:

....Winston Blick, chef and owner of Clementine in Baltimore, points out that restaurants have access to the time, techniques, equipment, and ingredients people at home do not. “At Clementine, we aren’t doing anything fancy, we are doing it well, and with consistency. We make food like mom and grandmom made, but use fresh, organic, all-natural ingredients—a style of cooking that skips back maybe three generations to when people had to use fresh and local because that was the only option.” For Blick, ingredients and emotion are at the core of comfort food, and he draws a comparison to music. “It’s all derivative,” he says. “When I think back to my childhood and remember all the music that was being played, I didn’t really like it then, but today almost everything I listen to is either similar to, or has its foundations there.” That’s what comfort food is. Something you might’ve regarded with indifference as a kid, but today, brings back fond emotions or memories, perhaps of a better, simpler time; a dish that takes the best of the past and blends in new and unique influences of today—sustenance not just for the body but also the spirit.
