Preschool in Hamilton (Baltimore 21214)

News from Community Play School:

Community Play School is a play-based preschool for children ages 2 through 5 located in Faith Community United Methodist Church in Northeast Baltimore's Hamilton Community. We are an affordable, community-based preschool dedicated to inclusion and diversity.

We meet September through May, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. with 2-, 3-, 4-, or 5-day schedules available. We also offer three extended days per week for children over 3.5 years old. For enrollment information, please send an email to communityplayschool@gmail.com.
The Community Play School is designed to provide a child-centered and individualized arts-enriched program inspired by the Reggio Emilia method.
Our philosophy is characterized by these developmental education principles:
- Children learn through play, interaction, problem solving, exploration, and discovery.
- Cooperation is more conducive to learning than competition.
- Children learn best when they can make choices and set their own goals.
- Each child is unique.
- Education is an on-going process which is enhanced when the child, teacher and family work together.

At the Community Play School we value a child’s right to a quality education that celebrates who he or she is, while providing tools to support ongoing emotional, intellectual, and creative growth. Our program is designed to deepen and enrich children’s encounters with the world, their community, and each other.

Community Play School is happy to announce our expansion for the 2011/2012 school year. We will offer three class choices for a variety of ages and schedules.

Our program for two year olds will meet on Thursdays and Fridays from 9-12:45.

Our threes/fours program will meet on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 9-12:45 with extended Workshop days available on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 12:45-2:15p.m.

Cleanup at 4500 Harford Road (home of the Tuesday Market in Lauraville)

The building at 4500 Harford Road got a bit of a facelift yesterday. Hamilton-Lauraville Main Street does not own this building, but did get permission to do some repair work to the roof. The roof has been leaking, but due to heavy rains from Hurricane Irene, the roof suffered further damage. The job is not complete, but a great deal of work was completed yesterday.

Thank you to Rich Marsiglia (Hamilton Vacuum) for spearheading this project and spending the day on the roof. Thank you to Tom Rhodes (Zeke's Coffee), John Kovacevich (LLC), Beth Dellow (Beth's DIY), Arthur Morgan (Hamilton Crop Circle) Jeff Smith (The Chameleon), Josh Marsiglia, Sue Holmes, Pam Wallace, Mike Murphy, & Nikee Ryan! Your hard work is always appreciated.

The work that was completed yesterday included some new wood on the roof, roof felt, heavy roof paper, some exterior painting, weeding, sweeping and loading two large loads of debris from the interior of the building that made it to the dump. Our next work day will include replacing damaged rain gutters, rotten wood on the north side of the building and more painting. The work date is not set, but all willing volunteers will be welcome.

Thank you to all of our great neighborhood volunteers that care to lend a hand to make things better! It makes a difference!
