Kopi Luwak Coffee Tasting Zeke’s Coffee January 14th and 15th
Kopi Luwak Coffee Tasting
Zeke’s Coffee
January 14th and 15th
Zeke’s Coffee
3003 Montebello Terrace
Baltimore, Maryland
www.zekescoffee.com
RARE DELIGHTS FROM the SUMATRAN JUNGLE! a treasured delicacy virtually unknown to the western palate.
BEHOLD! The amazing symbiosis between the Asian Palm Civet and Arabica Coffee Beans. This nocturnal jungle denizen ingests the ripest coffee cherries. Its irreproducible digestive system contains proteolytic enzymes which strip the beans of acid and bitterness yet maintains their caffeinated potency. Found only in the wilds of the Indonesian rain forest, these beans are gently brushed clean and meticulously cured. Once in the hands of our master roasters, these scarce and exquisite jewels are caramelized to perfection.
“After I overcame my initial reticence of the rather unique process, I was rewarded with one of the finest cups of coffee I have ever had the pleasure of tasting,” Says Mr. Thomas Rhodes proprietor of Zeke’s Coffee. “The flavor is incredibly smooth, with hints of nuts and delicate earthy tones. It is a singular coffee experience, unlike any other.” The Kopi Luwak is prized throughout for its incredible flavor, low acidity and its ease on the stomach. It is one of the rarest and most expensive coffees in the world.
Zeke’s Coffee is a locally owned, award winning small batch coffee roaster. We roast and blend a variety of coffees from all over the world. Our coffees are roasted to order. Small batch roasting is more labor intensive but guarantees freshness and greater attention to each pound roasted. Zeke’s has been roasting coffee since 2005 in Northeast Baltimore’s Lauraville neighborhood.
Tastings are at Zeke’s Coffee Roastery, 3003 Montebello Terrace every hour on the hour for the following dates and times:
January 14th from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM
January 15th from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM
$10 for a 10 ounce cup. $10 for a commemorative T Shirt.
Tickets are available at Zeke’s Coffee, 4607 Harford Road, Baltimore, Maryland 21214, Monday-Saturday 7:00AM to 6:00PM, Sunday 8:00AM to 4:00PM, at the Waverly and Downtown Farmer’s Makets, and online at www.zekescoffee.net
Friday January 13th 7:00PM to 10:00PM, there will be a WTMD member’s only Kopi Luwak tasting featuring an opportunity to meet award winning disc jockey The Weasel on 89.7 WTMD. The Weasel will also be playing a special broadcast to honor the event, Friday January 13th 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM and Saturday January 14th from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM. There are limited number of tickets available from WTMD, call (410) 704-8938 for more details.

Charmed Life Studio Art Opening Jan 6, 2012
Those Were The Days
Art by Anastasia Gnau
Art by Anastasia Gnau
Opening January 6th 2012
6:00 PM to 10:00 PM
6:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Charmed Life Gallery
4505 Harford Road
Baltimore, MD 21214
She’s worked hard enough, for little enough pay, it’s time for us to give it up for our shop girl, Anastasia Gnau. From January 3rd to January 31st Charmed Life Gallery and Tattoo Studio is proud to present “Those Were the Days”, art by Anastasia Gnau. There will be an opening on January 6th from 6:00PM to 10:00PM, featuring live music by the Sean Wilson Trio. This show is free and open to all ages.
“Everything is constantly changing. I want to capture transitory moments, to save something.”
Anastasia is an accomplished photographer. She tends to focus on the human form and images of decay. Her photography often isolates individual parts of the body. “I like to establish identity without showing faces,” She says. “The parts that comprise a person tell a story that is often lost when we look at the whole person.” She works predominantly in black and white. Her work displays exquisite chiaroscuro. There is a precise discipline to her placement of models and light.
This show will also feature oil paintings. “I only use oils because they hold a better texture. I always paint with a palette knife, never a brush. I need the texture to pop out of the painting,” Anastasia says. Her paintings feature mostly impressionistic pastoral settings. The texture feels dynamic, as if the paintings are moving. There is a palpable sensation of life in the canvas; figures that have seemingly crude features appear as if they may coalesce into animals or flowers as they cross one’s peripheral vision.
Born in Baltimore, raised in Parkville, Anastasia Gnau is too talented to be so damn young. She won a Gold Medal in 2010 from the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. The gold medal is reserved for “the most outstanding works in the nation”. She was nominated for a Maryland Distinguished Scholar Award, unfortunately the awards were cancelled due to budget shortfalls. She is currently a senior at Carver Center for Arts and Technology. She also interns at the Charmed Life Gallery.
