HLMS Community Meeting: March 30

Baltimore Development Corporation has leased the property at 4500-04 to Hamilton-Lauraville Main Street (HLMS). This is a temporary lease while negotiations continue regarding development of that property. HLMS is required to sponsor or co-sponsor any and all activity on the lot.

As this property has been an important topic in the community, HLMS would like to invite community members to attend a meeting on Monday, March 30th at 6:30 at Faith Community Church, 5315 Harford Road to discuss ideas and possible uses.

Please feel positive about this. Kristen Mitchell, Lorrie Schoettler and many community members have worked to bring something good to this vacant property. HLMS plans to continue to support business and work with community. Some great ideas are already floating. We invite you to be a part of this.

In addition, I would also like to share some of the plans in progress throughout the Main Street area. HLMS committee chairpersons and members will be available to explain the function of their committee and activities currently under way.

What: HLMS Community meeting regarding 4500-04 vacant lot

When: Monday, March 30 at 6:30

Where: Faith Community Church, 5315 Harford Road (enter from Gibbons Avenue)

  • Light refreshments will be served
Please pass the news to your community association members, your neighbors, your local businesses and anyone who may be interested. Please join us!

Thank you,

Regina Lansinger

Director, HLMS

Reading Grant Awarded to Red Canoe Bookstore

Red Canoe is pleased to announce the award of a grant from Parks and People. The purpose of the grant is to spend a year reading with a diverse group of middle school age children from the Lauraville and Belair Edison corridors. During the spring, summer and fall particpants will meet once a week to read in Herring Run Park.

And there is more! The grant covers the cost of showing
in the park the movie made from the book and it covers the cost of the soda and pizza to munch on while watching the movie. With the colder weather, the movies will be shown at the 4321 Harford Road movie house.

The Red Canoe's mission has always been to bring the power of literacy to building community. The award of this grant is fundamental to the goals of partnering children with the good stewardship of the great community resource that Herring Run Park is, as well as developing a genuine love of reading.

Pancakes for Dinner!

Pancakes for Dinner Next Tuesday at the Episcopal Church of the Messiah

Next Tuesday, Feb. 24th, is Mardi Gras, or Shrove Tuesday, and the Episcopal Church of the Messiah will be holding their annual family-friendly Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper to benefit Boy Scout Troop 161 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Pancakes for dinner? What’s that all about?

Shrove (or Pancake) Tuesday is the day before Lent begins. Eating pancakes is an old custom from the British Isles – a way of using up all of those decadent ingredients, like butter and eggs, which traditionally were not allowed during Lent.

And those crazy Brits also hold pancake races, where they sprint to a finish line flipping a pancake in a frying pan as they go. So, in the spirit of “why not?” this year, for the first time, pancake races will also be held during the evening’s festivities. So come and join the fun, have breakfast for dinner and join the pancake races!

Pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs and beverages will be served. Tickets are only $5.00 for anyone age 12 & older, or $2.50 for children ages 6 through 11. Children under 6 years eat for free. All proceeds from the supper will benefit Boy Scout Troop 161.

The Church of the Messiah is located in Hamilton at Harford Road and White Avenue along the #19 MTA bus transit line. Parking is available behind the church off of White Avenue; just enter the red doors off the parking lot and head downstairs for a great seasonal meal.
